Posted January 21st, 2022 by Francisco Lasta

Effective January 1, 2022, Catherine “Cate” Muller was promoted to President of Chicago-based architectural firm, Muller & Muller, Ltd. (Muller2). As President, Cate directs the overall success and growth of Muller2, including oversight of firm strategy, culture, marketing, and business development. In close collaboration with Muller2’s senior management team and other key stakeholders, she guides and promotes the firm’s mission, core values, and long-range plans.

A shareholder of Muller2 since 2017, Cate has served as Business Development Lead for more than eight years, taking a hand in leading scores of proposals and maintaining solid relationships with the firm’s key clients. On a personal level, she is also deeply passionate about and invested in Muller2 and its team of more than 50 employees across Chicago, central Illinois, Dallas/Fort Worth, and beyond. As Muller2’s new President, Cate builds on the legacy of her parents, Cindy and Jay Muller, who founded Muller2 in 1984 and built it into a leading mid-sized firm serving aviation, transit, passenger rail, recreation, education, general municipal and commercial clients.

“In the last five years our firm has more than doubled in size, including opening new offices in Dallas and central Illinois. Simply stated, we could not have achieved this success without Cate’s contributions and leadership. I am beyond thrilled to see the Muller family’s legacy continue into the next generation and I look forward to her trusted insights as the firm continues to grow and evolve.” – Mark Stromberg, Managing Principal

Cate is an active member of the Airport Consultants Council (ACC), Society of Marketing Professionals (SMPS), Columbia and Annapolis Yacht Clubs, and the US J70 Class. As a life-long sailor and avid racer, Cate has held leadership roles in the sailing community both locally and nationally, as well as led highly successful racing programs in both the Midwest and on the East Coast.  She is a public relations graduate of Marquette University and alumni of the Latin School of Chicago.  Cate travels frequently between Chicago, Dallas, and Annapolis, MD, where she lives with her husband and three stepchildren.

As Cate takes on this new role, she will be supported by the continued contributions of Muller2’s Managing Principal, Mark Stromberg, AIA, as well as co-founder and Principal, Jay Muller, AIA, and co-founder and former President, Cindy Muller, AIA who will be scaling back in her duties. Day-to-day client operations will continue unchanged, and our clients and consultants can expect a smooth and seamless transition.

Muller2 has contributed to numerous recognizable projects.  In Chicago, the firm has contributed to more than 110 transit, commuter rail, and passenger rail stations, the Chicago Riverwalk masterplan, the Navy Pier Flyover Lakefront Bike Path, multiple projects at Chicago’s Union Station, and numerous school projects.  Most recently, Muller2’s expansion of Midway International Airport opened and construction of the O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 5 expansion is ongoing. In central Illinois, Muller2’s contributions include high-profile transit projects in Springfield and Peoria, as well as numerous high-speed rail stations across the state.
